About me
Chris Cartwright, MPA, Ed.D. is an assessment consultant, trainer, and instructor supporting individuals and organizations in assessing and developing inclusion, intercultural, and global competence, and leadership capacity. He has 40+ years of experience in multiple sectors. He assesses, consults, coaches, trains, teaches, and researches regionally, nationally, and internationally in areas of competency identification and development, service-learning, and social justice. He is an associate of the Connective Leadership Institute, the Kozai Group, icEdge, and Aperian Global.
He teaches in the Department of Political and Global Studies, for the College of Urban and Public Affairs for Portland State University. In Spring 2022, he was awarded the Academic Excellence Award for Adjunct Faculty for instruction and research. He currently teaches three courses for PSU. He stives to enhance his learners’ perspective of themselves and the diverse people they engage through highly interactive course work emphasizing multimodal assessment, reflection, and practice of competency development. He has taught courses for PSU in the MBA and the Training & Development programs as well for Minerva, the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterray, Pepperdine University, University of the Pacific. He has or is serving on doctoral dissertation committees for Pepperdine University, University of Maryland-Baltimore, and Indiana Wesleyan University.

Prior to this he has authored or co-authored book chapters and journal articles on Global and/or Inclusive Leadership, Intercultural Competence, Service-Learning, Diversity, and Social Justice.
He is a frequent conference presenter regionally, nationally, and internationally offering papers, panel discussions, and workshops for associations and organizations with a focus on the intersections of leadership, inclusion, intercultural competence, and service.
Dr. Cartwright earned his Ed.D. from the Graduate School of Education at Portland State University. He earned his Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from Indiana University, Purdue University at Indianapolis and his Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics degree from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor.
Dr. Cartwright is originally from Battle Creek, Michigan and lived, worked, or studied in Bloomington, Indiana, Cambridge, MA, and Nottingham, UK. He lives in near NE Portland with his wife, Dr. Lisa Hoberg, a veterinarian. They enjoy living in their 100+ year old bungalow, gardening, cooking, yoga, urban walks, and their pets.

Horane Diatta-Holgate is the Program Director of Inclusive Pedagogy ND Learning | Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence. Horane supports and consults with instructors (faculty and graduate students) on cultivating inclusive classroom environments for and with their students. Horane also provides support to instructors developing their intercultural knowledge and competence to enact inclusive teaching practices as well as embed diversity, equity and inclusivity throughout different elements of their course and curriculum.
Horane is a qualified administrator of several assessments for intercultural learning and development including the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), Cultural Intelligence (CQ), Beliefs Events and Values Inventory (BEVI) and Intercultural Communication Edge (ICEDGE). Horane has also developed measures assessing students’ development of global competencies, and perceptions of cultural responsiveness in the classroom environment.
Horane has a B.A. in Psychology and minor in Sociology from Johnson C. Smith University as well as a MSEd and PhD in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology from Purdue University. Prior to joining ND Learning, Horane was a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Purdue University Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE) and College of Agriculture Office of Multicultural Programs.
